USAT Liberty in Tulamben, Bali

The USAT Liberty shipwreck is the glory crown of Tulamben diving, that is one of the reason why scuba divers come to Tulamben. It used to carry parts of the railroad tracks and rubber needed for war. It was built a a 120 metres cargo ship equipped with two weapons during World War II. In January 1942, the ship was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine which was briefly anchored off the coast of Lombok. In 1963, it was still grounded on the beach at Tulamben hen Mt. Agung erupted.

Take your time on the wreck because there is a large amount of macro life. Various types of shrimp and pygmy seahorses are also seen here. Not only that, sharks, bumps and barracudas are also seen here.Larger predator fish may be seen inside the structure at night. To get there, it takes 4 hours from Ngurah Rai International Airport to reach Tulamben, or you may also reach Tulamben by bu.

Duke of Sparta in Ambon Bay, Maluku

The SS Duke of Sparta, also referred to the SS Aquila is a cargo ship built by William Gray and Organization in Teeside, England in 1940. It is 135 metres long, over 17 metres wide. In 1958, whilst moored in Ambon Bay, Maluku, it was targeted as part of a covert mission by the CIA and bombed by an unmarked Douglas B 26 Invader Bomber piloted by Allen Pere.

Many various types of fish in this wreck, such as batfish, huge trumpetfish, fusiliers seafood, snappers, and butterfly fish. You can get there from Pattimura Airport as the only airport in Ambon Island, located near the bay. The airport has flights to Makassar, Manado, Jakarta and other destination in Indonesia. There is also a direct route from Ambon t Sorong, which makes a stop towards Raja Ampat.

Sophie Rickmers wreck in Weh Island, Aceh

Sophie Rickmers is a huge cargo steamship that was built in Germany in 1920. During the World War II, The ship was part of 5 ships that were seized by the Dutch on May 10,1940 around Weh Island. This ship is used to transport valuables such as tin, large ceramic plates, and others. Sophie Rickmers who was being repaired on Weh Island became the target of the British and the Dutch. The crew then chose to sink Sophie’s ship instead of handing it over to the Dutch East Indies.

the wreck is at depth of 50 metres from the surface making this a challenge for divers. Therefore, divers will find it difficult to see reefs and group of fish when diving, usually divers may only see blue walls and faint oceans. To get Weh Islands, from Banda Aceh International Airport is about 20 minutes by taxi to the harbor Ulee Lheu, to take a fast or slow ferry to Pulau Weh, Balohan harbour.
